Powell Memorial Library Receives $35,000 in Grants to Launch Bookmobile
Troy, Mo. – The Lincoln County R-III School District is excited to announce that Powell Memorial Library has been awarded two significant grants totaling $35,000 to expand library access across the District.  The American Library Association (ALA) awarded the library $20,000, and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Missouri provided an additional $15,000.
The ALA Libraries Transforming Communities: Accessible Small and Rural Communities grant designates funds specifically for small and rural libraries to enhance the accessibility of facilities, services, and programs to better serve people with disabilities. These funds will be used to repurpose a decommissioned school bus into a fully functional bookmobile, bringing library materials and services directly to residents who face barriers to visiting the library. This includes people with disabilities, senior citizens, and others who may have limited transportation options.
“Libraries are designed to connect people to information, stories, and opportunities,” said Mrs. Valerie Levy, Powell Memorial Librarian. “This bookmobile will allow us to better serve every corner of the Lincoln County R-III School District, ensuring that everyone, no matter their circumstances, has an opportunity to access library services.”
The grants will cover the cost of renovating the bus and stocking it with books and materials for all ages. The library anticipates launching the bookmobile, which is not yet officially named, by the end of April 2026. “Building a love for reading and education will help prepare students for a lifetime of success,” said Todd Williams, president of Toyota Missouri. “Toyota is excited to support the bookmobile and better connect our community with critical library resources.”
“This project is a wonderful example of community partnership,” said Dr. Matt Frederickson, Lincoln County R-III School District Superintendent. “We’re grateful to the American Library Association and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Missouri for investing in a project that will have a lasting impact on our communities' patrons.”
Updates on the project will be shared on the Powell Memorial Library website and social media channels.Â
